BIOLITH

Biolith (Bari Yukaro) is an explorer, naturalist, and musician based in Colorado. He spends most of his time secluded in the mountains, using the natural world as his main source of inspiration.

Over the years, Biolith’s musical style has shifted from piano-focused ambient electronica influenced by C418 and Floex to atmospheric post-rock after being exposed to bands like Sigur Rós and Radiohead.

In August of 2023, Biolith helped form Human People, a short-lived project with Fletcher Gull, another artist whom he met while studying in Boulder. Human People had numerous shows with other guest musicians before they disbanded in April of the following year.

Since the disbanding of Human People, Biolith has been all but inactive, preparing for the release of his upcoming album, seas: chapter 2. It will be his most adventurous work yet, featuring cello-bowed electric guitar and vocals.

With nature as his main inspiration, the album soundtracks the exploration that Biolith did during lockdown around the forests of southwest Colorado. Many of the songs are named after places around his home, with others being taken from pieces of poetry that Biolith was writing at the time. The album features Biolith’s early piano-focused style, with tight electronic drums and layered ambient synths holding the songs together. It's a very personal album, coming from a dark period in Biolith’s life in the middle of COVID-19, when social interaction was at an all-time low.

The album expresses a lot of the anger and grief that was felt as Biolith watched the forests that he grew up in being flattened for housing in the ever--expanding town of Durango. Named after a stick fort that Biolith built with his childhood friends, the Return of Splitrock represents a silent rebellion against corporate greed and urbanization. It has a similar style to Biolith I with a much darker tone.

Trip Reports was an important milestone in Biolith’s songwriting, featuring the addition of guitar and a more rock-oriented style, while keeping piano as a main instrument. It would also experiment with more acoustic instruments, including acoustic guitar, bassoon, and harp.

Regardless, it is an important release in Biolith’s discography, highlighting more experimentation in song structure and marking the end of Biolith’s 2021-2022 era.

It is the first of Biolith's projects to feature vocals, as well as almost completely live production. Most of the lyrics and song names are in nepa-sata, a language created by Biolith. Sonically, the album is much different than Biolith's past works, showing Biolith's exploration of live instrumentation and atmospheric post-rock.

(Neko Drenas) is an urban explorer, artist, and musician based in Colorado. A bit of a social recluse, he spends most of his time in the depths of abandoned buildings preparing for the "inevitable fall of humanity".

The musical style of Necrolith is heavily inspired by post-rock acts like Godspeed You! Black EmperorSwans, and Have A Nice Life, resulting in darker-sounding music that paints a bleak, dystopian image of modern society.

Necrolith is currently working on his debut album, the ghosts of valmont butte.
